Blind Man Playing

by Janis Gaines

How unexpected
Looking for a u-turn
Half-way up the mountain
To find a blind man playing
A dulcimer
Out on the open hill
Overlooking rushing waters
Down below
And I have a sense
That he sees me coming
That he knows my secrets
But he is kind enough
Not to speak them out loud
He holds a steady beat for the earth
And for those who are lost
Who love to roam
And those trying to find their way home

On impulse I circle back
And offer a vibration of gratitude
For his sacred service
To the wind
