Playing Games

by Janis Gaines

You open your mouth
Yes, I heard you!
But nothing comes out
All vanity
Even once you touched me
But I didn’t feel it
Though I have known you for so long now
I could swear you’re not there
You have yet to learn my name or my face
Or the clothes that I wear
All void
Full of nothing
Yet we smile and sometimes we laugh
And I think to myself, who am I
And what am I doing here
Playing games
Games of false sunshine and pain
Games that I don’t know how to play
I am tired of losing
These games
