by Janis Gaines

The wind and waves are having their final say
With full force gusts and threatening heights
Crashing down against my frailty
With frothy white foam spewing fear my way
Seeking to intimidate and overtake me
A watery quicksand of currents
And a mighty sea serpent
Drowning my future and opening my grave
Filling my lungs with water
I can’t breathe

But I have lowered the heavyweights
And anchored my soul deep
In the confines of a solid rock faith
Soaked through and through, I push
With a mighty gasp, I reach
For that saving breath
That makes my heart beat
